Many of us started reading Plum when we were fairly young. I wonder do youngsters read Plum these days? Do they read much of him or not at all? I realize that his stories are dated in terms of a very different era but the language was captivating.…

Gosh I like this theme- imagine Gussie Fink-Nottle tweeting about newts, the Earl of Emsworth about pigs and their diet and Jeeves about the psychology of the individual:)

Come to think of it, it would be hilarious if our favourite characters from Plum used Twitter. What do you think they would say? I am sure Clarence would use up all 140 characters for saying " What, what, what, eh, what?"

Charles Moore had this review on Plum in The Telegraph. Evelyn Waugh called him " the head of my profession" and Charles Moore says he is the "patron saint" of writers. Well said!

Heywood Hill's Wodehouse Quotes Contest

Remember I posted about the Wodehouse quotes contest at the Plum Idol event organised at Heywood Hill? More than 200 favourite quotes from Wodehouse were posted at their web site.

The quote that won with the most votes was:

“As for Gussie Fink-Nottle, many an experienced undertaker would have been deceived by his appearance and started embalming him on sight.”

NaNoWriMo

Thrilled that I completed National Novel Writing Month. Handed in 50127 words written from November 1 on November 24.

It was a delightful experience. Enjoyed sharing and learning from others in the different forums.

The die hard fan of Wodehouse that I am, I had to bring him in somewhere. So, as is obvious, I made one of the characters in my novel a fan too!

Quotes from The Master

Stressed out? The best remedy- dip into Plum's works. Here's a link to some quotes which should bring a smile to your lips.

I remember reading an article when the guy says one of his girl friends was going through a bad patch and wanted to see a shrink. In his words, he pointed her to P G Wodehouse instead and this cured her- saving them a lot of money in the bargain!

Sadly my novel is not about Plum or Plum's characters. My novel is about an Indian Army officer and spans three decades after the 1971 War.It comes under the genre of historical fiction!

Hi Prem,

Thank you for the warm welcome!

PG Wodehouse was my late father's favourite read, as well. He had all the books, and used to call himself, albeit half-seriously, a "PG Wodehouse devotee"!

My all time favourite piece by PGW is on "Mulliner's Buck-U-Uppo"

Glad to be a part of it.

Thanks and regards,
Vibhav

Thanks, Prem. Glad to be here. The profile picture is a drawing I did of the great man in 1971, which he signed and returned to me.

Wonder if any other Old Alleynians are in the group?

Good to be here. Have started a discussion, will soon try and get acclimatised with the environment here. By the way, my mug shot has been chosen carefully - I'm standing in front of PGW's birthplace in Guildford, England.

Nope - unfortunately not :-(. I am ardent enough for the both of us. I have been reading PGW from when I was in my third standard - my grandfather and uncles were fans and so had some books to hand at home....
